The Ideal Condition (2011)
School of English, Media & the Performing Arts Honours Show
Studio One, University of New South Wales
29th August - 2nd September 2011
Performed as partial fulfilment of practice-based honours research
Creator / Performer: Bernice Ong
Sound / Set: Bernice Ong
Technical Stage Manager: Gordon Rymer
Production Manager: Mark Mitchell
The figure is composed, in her own world, fully (and most naturally) self-indulgent, in an arrangement that would have the audience seem like a voyeuristic lot. In this work, I was interested in what the notion of an ideal condition can entail. The performance-installation is however not so driven by its thematic underpinnings as it is about the experience of each audience inhabiting the space together with the onstage figure, and as they keep watch, what might be made of it.
