Sign-Fi (2008)
The subjects of this series are chosen for their informative potential. Colour is crucial in our understanding of space and these paintings being derivatives of road signs are manipulated as such because of what they can represent. Using road signs as a metaphor for literal direction, my magnification of select areas reference an over-analysing of detail and function, and in doing so, invert original intentions. This allegory can suit many circumstances. With art perhaps, has the artist's interpretation culminated in a product that is more meaning-ful or meaning-less, or does it even matter? I question definitions and instruction-based direction as we attempt to make sense of rules and regulations in this life.
